Pink Apple, the biggest queer film festival in Switzerland, was founded in 1997 by a group of film enthusiasts in Frauenfeld, Canton of Thurgau. Thurgau, known as the “Apple Canton,” inspired the festival’s name. Initially aimed at promoting the acceptance and emancipation of homosexuality through cultural activities, the festival debuted in 1998.
Following the success of the lesbian and gay Eurogames in Zurich in 2000, Pink Apple expanded to the city. Over the years, Pink Apple has grown, becoming Switzerland’s largest LGBTQ+ film festival. It now presents approximately 120 films from around the world, including features, documentaries, and shorts. The festival also hosts fringe events, Q&As, panels, and masterclasses, maintaining its connection to both Zurich and Frauenfeld.
